History of our company

The company Wirz Transport AG was founded on 25.10.1952 by Mr. Karl Wirz. The immediate acquisition of four new tractor units meant the first international transports to Germany, Italy and France. With reliable key accounts like the company Bobst in Lausanne, a sustainable and success-oriented branch in normal freight transport could be built up. The acquisition of special vehicles for the transport of oversized cargo, both nationally and internationally, took place a few years later.

With the award of the Shell package in 1960, a shift from general goods to liquid goods took place, which in the high season employed up to 20 of its own bitumen tank vehicles. Even though the transport of normal and oversized goods was never neglected, the bitumen business made up a large part of the total volume. This enabled healthy, constant growth until the late 1980s. When Mr. Karl Wirz retired from the transport industry on January 1, 1987, he sold the company to Welti Furrer AG in Zurich. However, Wirz Transport AG remained independent.

The early 90 years brought another turnaround with it. The loss of the Bitumen Accounts forced not only the sale of all tank vehicles but also required a reorientation in international road transport. Through successful re-acquisitions, this was however caught up again within a short time, which in turn enabled the implementation of an expansion policy. New country relations such as Great Britain, Austria, Spain and Portugal contributed to steady growth. With the implementation of an offensive market strategy, the opening of new branches in Germany in 2001 and Spain in 2007 was also added.

The Wirz Group currently employs around 20 employees in 3 countries.
The Wirz philosophy still reads:

Always one length ahead!
